Bay Racing

Cruiser Bay Racing is managed by the Bay Sailing WG

contact Ian Parker or Michael Crees

Bay Racing at the Axe takes place on Saturdays and Sundays, and is split into early and late series. The Byron handicap system is used for all Bay races. The series racing consists of 5 - 6 races normally made up of elapsed timed racing and pursuit racing.

A trophy is awarded for each series:

  • Early Saturday Series - Challis Cup
  • Early Sunday Series - AYC Cup
  • Late Saturday Series - Saturday Cup
  • Late Sunday Series - Perry Challenge Cup
  • Overall Winner of all 4 Series - President's Cup

The 'brown sail' fleet of day boats (eg Cornish Cobles, Drascombe Luggers, Falmouth Bass-boats, Devon Yawls, Beer Luggers & Cornish Shrimpers) race alongside the main cruiser fleet with a separate trophy awarded to the most successful.

There is also a Wednesday evening series, a two race coastal series (Sewer Race series - West Bay Challenge Cup), a Family series (Cruiser Sweepstake Cup) and a Ladies Race (Mermaid Cup).
