RYA Training at AYC
The Club is keen to offer all those who go to sea, the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications. We are a Training Centre recognised by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) to provide a range of shore based and on the water courses.
Adult National Sailing Scheme Levels 1-3
Youth Sailing Scheme Stages 1-4
All courses are run by RYA experienced and qualified instructors, the majority of whom are members of the AYC. They are all classroom or practical lessons which are delivered face-to-face. This gives important advantages over online courses: individual support; access to training equipment and the development of a class identity, ethos and mutual support structure. They are also more fun!
Yachtmaster and Day Skipper courses are run as evening classes from October to March. Other shore based courses (VHF Radio, Diesel Engine, First Aid) are held in February/March. Powerboat courses are generally run in October/November and March/April. Click on the links above for the course dates - additional dates may be offered subject to demand.
Dinghy Sailing was added to our list of approved training in 2017. As well as courses, this allows us to run 'coaching & certification' weekends during which an RYA Senior Instructor formally assesses the skills which members have gained during the Saturday Sailing sessions. Click on the link for more information.
Online booking & payment facility is now available for AYC members (log in required). Links for each course will take you to the relevant page to book. Once you have booked a place on any course please complete an Enrol Form and send it to Sheila Crees (by email email@example.com or post to the address on the form).
Courses for Non-AYC Members. Non-AYC members are very welcome to attend AYC shorebased courses and some powerboat courses subject to availability - please contact the training secretary by email firstname.lastname@example.org to book a place and you will be given details of how to make your payment.
