AYC Development Plan

The Axe Yacht Club (AYC) development plan lays out the Club's ambitions and plans for a rolling five-year period. The main purpose of the plan is to provide a clear direction, enabling the Club to focus activity and investment in both people and facilities identified for development. The plan was introduced in 2018 and aimed to build on the success of the Club's '5yr Strategy to Develop Family Sailing' 2012-2017.

The development plan is reviewed by the Executive Committee every twelve months and updated where appropriate, to ensure its targets remain consistent with the changing circumstances and needs of the membership. The document was significantly revised in March 2021 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. It was then reviewed & updated by the EC in March 2022 and again in March 2023.

The Club's key goals, which the development plan seeks to deliver, include:

  • Facilitate participation in watersports for all.
  • Maintain/increase membership within the constraints of the site.
  • Work with agencies to maintain the harbour and access to the sea with annual dredging in the winter months.
  • Maintain harbour facilities including slipways, pontoons etc.
  • Continue to improve & maximise the use of the clubhouse facilities.
  • Review enhancing the clubhouse sea defence.
  • Increase the level of volunteering to support all aspects of Club activities.
  • Increase training available for members (shore based & on the water).
  • Develop a Club information plan.
