River Race 12 Results

Published 15:12 on 10 Sep 2026

I think we were particularly fortunate to get a race in last night. I must admit it didn't look hopeful looking up river at a glassy estuary! But, against the forecast NW'ly, a light easterly zephyr filled in, enough to get a lap completed on a somewhat reduced course with a running start!

Initially the Mirrors led the way, with a certain Scow making it's own wind as it powered through to the front. Sadly it didn't last, the leeward mark was the undoing of a number of boats. Rounding the buoy  caused many to bunch up as they stemmed the tide back up to the finish line.

Steve in his Int 12 managed to avoid the leeward mark 'melee' (OED:- large noisy uncontrolled crowd (Mirrors), in which people (boats) are moving in different directions and sometimes fighting with each other!) and took the lead to finish first on the water.

However, application of the handicaps saw the Coypu crew once again take first place - congratulations to them. The Coypu needs one more result before its third handicap adjustment comes into effect!!!

Despite the lack of wind, it was an enjoyable sail - and thanks go to Morag for standing in to provide the after race refreshments...
