Club Sailing Weekend

The idea of this weekend was to get a group of beginners/inexperienced sailors of all ages out on the water assisted by more experienced sailors - it was fantastic to see 26 people getting involved over the 3 days, either sailing or supporting. 

Originally we had planned to sail on the river, which is usually a more sheltered environment for beginners - but strong northerly winds made the river very choppy on Saturday and Sunday mornings. By Saturday afternoon the wind had moderated but by then the tide was low on the river - fortunately the conditions were ideal for beach launching and everyone got afloat, even the Oppi! On Sunday the wind in the bay held for a while but then dropped off giving the chance for a bit of capsize training. On Monday the dinghies took to the river and despite frequent wind shifts and a few challenging gusts everyone had a great time. 

It has been really good to see everyone growing in confidence over the three days. Thanks to everyone who has got stuck in helping with getting boats up & down the beach, rigging, launch & retrieval and manning the support boats..... and thanks to Dan for the photos!
