  • Cadet Big Boat Day Delayed to Friday 29th July

    Thanks to all the 'big boat' owners who have offered to take cadets/parents out. Due to the forecast for tomorrow (strong SW winds) we will delay until Friday when the weather looks better.     AXE REGATTA, 30th & 31st JULY - Sailing Instructions now posted

    The main Club event of the season is this coming weekend. The programme includes dinghy & cruiser bay races, a river race, a parade of sail/motor boats, & a boat fishing competition. Activities on the water will be supported by social activities including Bob Mercer's legendary BBQ on Saturday evening with musical entertainment from 'Patches'. The winner of the 2016 AYC photographic competition will be announced at the Sunday evening

    SSAC/AYC BBQ raises £1000.76 for the RNLI!!

    Saturday's BBQ was a roaring success with over 150 people enjoying fish, pork & burgers cooked by chefs Lucy Dack & John Wallington. This was supplemented by numerous dishes donated by SSAC & AYC members. Dave & Nick behind the bar kept everyone well watered, the pig racing was very popular, and a raffle & the auction of a bottle of port/brandy added nearly £300 to the total. Well Done to everyone involved!!

    Around UK Sailors Return!

    Congratulations to Geoff & Eddie who arrived back at the Axe on 9th July. They set off from AYC on 14 th May to sail around the UK in a 33-foot Moody. Despite getting a rope wrapped around their propellor off the Lizard, spending nearly a week stuck in the Scilly Isles because of bad weather and being storm-bound in Stornaway, they completed the trip (over 2500 miles) in 7 weeks, 6 days &

  • Cadet Activity Week Starts Saturday 23rd July!

    Cadet Week is now fully booked & the programme is available on the website. The first day will be a normal Saturday Sailing session but please meet at the Axe Vale Canoe Club at 2pm for a briefing. This will be followed by the Cadet Family BBQ from 6pm. The programme includes three days of dinghy training (Sunday - Tuesday), 'Water Based Games Day' on Wednesday & 'Big Boat Day' on Thursday. You then get

    June Dinghy Racing Round Up

    This weekend saw the completion of the June Dinghy Series , which had 16 entries. Michael Crees finished in first place with 8 points from 5 races.   • Niveus wins Exmouth Race & Arun takes Bay Race Series

    The weekend 25 th /26 th June saw the passage race to Exmouth and the completion of the June Cruiser Bay Race Series. Well done to Gordon Wright, who finished the Exmouth Race well ahead of the rest of the fleet. David Mettam took this month's Cruiser Series with a win in the final race.   • Boat Fishing Competition 12th June - John Coop Saves the Day for AYC!

    Sadly the threat of a "sloppy" sea from a predicted South Westerly & an early tide cut the entrants in the second match between AYC vs SSAC to just one boat & one fisherman. John Coop picked up a couple of plaice so by attendance AYC won 1-0!! The series now stands at 1-1 so the next match will be the decider (17th July - details to be confirmed). Let's hope

    Roobarb Wins The Dartmouth Race UPDATED RESULTS

    16 boats set sail for Dartmouth on 4th June. 8 boats decided to race while the rest opted to motor to Dartmouth on account of the very light offshore wind. At the start 7 boats flew spinnakers and one a cruising chute. As expected, Mark Jenkins led from the start in Rhoobarb closely followed by David Haywood in Canna.     Merhaba wins 'Round The Island' River Race

    Congratulations to David Barnett on winning the Round The Island Race in his Lymington River Skow, Merhaba. Mike & Jane Calvert were 2nd & currently lead the River Shield series. In addition to the River Shield, the River race series has general handicap, skow & cadet dinghy classes, & don't forget the Mirror trophy!
