COVID-19 Update - 14th May 2020

Following last night's update from the Axmouth Harbour Master, I'm sure that many of you will be keen to get afloat as soon as possible.

I urge everyone to act responsibly during these difficult times and if you do not need to visit your boat urgently, we ask you to wait a few days so we are not overcrowded in these early stages. We all want to go out and enjoy our boats and the water after these difficult few weeks, but we need to do it sensibly and safely for everyone.

1. Social Distancing is ESSENTIAL at all times - if people don't follow the rules we will be back in lockdown before we know it.

Pontoons/slipway

  • Please take particular care to maintain 2m distancing when accessing the pontoons
  • Wait until the previous user is safely out of the way and the path is clear
  • Allow those leaving the pontoon to come ashore before you go onto the pontoon

2. Safety Is Paramount - you don't want to be the one who puts others at risk by calling out the Emergency Services.

  • Check your equipment carefully before going afloat.
  • Test your engine - a trial up river is a good idea for motor boats
  • Everyone should be wearing a lifejacket/buoyancy aid
  • If going out of the harbour, check the river mouth first - walk down there and/or look at the last low tide screen on the webcam. There is a tricky bar at the moment. IF IN DOUBT DON'T GO OUT
  • Watch out for crab/lobster pots, particularly along the shore to the east of the harbour entrance - you don't want a rope around your prop

3. The Clubhouse Remains Closed - so there are no toilet facilities on site

4. General Guidance

  • Anyone who is unwell with symptoms of COVID-19 should not come to the club. Anyone who has contact with a family or household member who is unwell with the symptoms of COVID-19 should stay away from the club for a minimum of 14 days.
  • Members should arrive on their own or with members of their own household (i.e. those they live with).
  • Please park on the beach top leaving one parking space empty between each car. DO NOT PARK IN THE YARD.
  • You are encouraged to bring disposable gloves and anti-bacterial hand sanitiser to use when handling surfaces that other members come into contact with e.g. yard taps.
  • You must bring your own tools and equipment - members will not be permitted to enter Fred's shed or borrow tools. Work within your capabilities to minimise the risk of an accident.
  • Members are not permitted to stay overnight on their boats.
  • You are not permitted on any boat other than your own
  • For yard stored boats, please make sure that your boat and trailer are clearly marked with your AYC membership number. A spare key for any trailer lock must be left with the Bosun.

If we receive any further guidance, I will update you again but any questions, please do e-mail.

I look forward to seeing you back on the water over the coming days and weeks.

Best wishes

Amanda Parker
