This year's Cadet Week runs from Friday 4 August to Tuesday 8 August and we have an action packed programme of activities planned for on and off the water.

Whilst we hope to have great summer conditions so we can sail from the beach, we have planned to make the most of the tides on the river if the weather is unkind. At this stage we would stress that the programme, and especially the timings, are subject to change depending on the weather.

How does it work?

If you've been to Cadet Week before you'll be familiar with how it works. For those new to Cadet Week here are a few notes to be aware of below. You can read about previous Cadet Weeks in the AYC Yearbooks which can be found on the website (see p24-25 of the 2022 Yearbook)

Link here: In & Around The Axe - The AYC Yearbook

Guardians: At least one parent or an authorised guardian must be there at all times to supervise their child/ren and to help on the shore or in the support boat. We will ask each cadet and parent to sign both IN and OUT for each session.

Costs: There will be a charge of £15 per cadet per day, or £50 per cadet for the week, to cover the expenses (snacks, boat fuel etc). You will be able to pay online through the Club website. Your cadet's place will not be confirmed until payment is received.

Lunch: Please make sure each cadet has a named water bottle and a packed lunch with them each day. If we are sailing on the river, lunch may need to be later to make best use of the available tide.

Facilities: We will be using the Club facilities and it is important that we leave them clean and tidy so there will be a requirement for parents and cadets to participate in a cleaning rota for the changing rooms during the week.

Communications: We will start the day with a daily briefing, and end the day confirming the plan for the next. We will also have a Cadet Week WhatsApp group for up to date information, programme reminders and updates. The programme will also be on the website.

Support Boat Helms and Crew: We will need helms and crew for up to 4 support boats each Cadet dinghy sailing day so please do volunteer if you are available. You do not need to have prior experience in order to crew just common sense and a willingness to learn.

To Book Your Place:

We anticipate that places will be booked very quickly this year, so please send an email by Friday 21 July to info@axeyachtclub.co.uk with the following information:

  1. Names and ages of the cadets and their sailing experience
  2. What days they will attend (we encourage you to attend all five but understand if you can't)
  3. Names of the parents/guardians/helpers attending with your cadets
  4. How they might be able to help support boat helm, crew or general helper
  5. The names and mobile phone numbers of anyone who wants to be added to the Cadet Week WhatsApp group.

Once you have emailed please confirm the booking by paying online below.

Cadet Week 2022 was extremely popular and enjoyed by all who attended. We hope we will have places for everyone who wants to come this year but if we are over-subscribed we may have to allocate places on a first come first served basis. So do book soon to secure a place.

If you have any questions please email us at info@axeyachtclub.co.uk
