'Halfway to Iceland - a voyage to & around the Faroe Islands'. 27th April 7:30pm
Published 11:23 on 26 Apr 2018
In July 1998, the yacht Capella Endeavour set sail from Kirkwall, Orkney for the Faeroe Islands. This was the start of a four week expedition involving fifty people, participating in offshore sailing, sub-aqua and hill walking activities. David sailed as first mate on the yacht for the outward voyage and for the two separate explorations of the islands under sail. The crew was made up of Cadet Force Adult Volunteers and Combined Cadet Force cadets from schools all over the UK.
The talk will touch on the initial build up and preparation before setting sail and then describe the voyage and the specific challenges in sailing around these islands.
Dawn & Hazel will be providing stew after the talk - if you have not already signed up for this on the list in the clubhouse, please email huimariner@hotmail.co.uk and they may be able to squeeze you in.
