RYA Training at AYC

The Club is keen to offer all those who go to sea, the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications. We are a Training Centre recognised by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) to provide a range of shore based and on the water courses.

Shorebased RYA courses

VHF Radio

Diesel Engine

First Aid

Day Skipper

RYA Powerboat courses

Powerboat Levels 1 & 2

Safety Boat

RYA Dinghy Training

Adult National Sailing Scheme Levels 1-3

Youth Sailing Scheme Stages 1-4

All courses are run by RYA experienced and qualified instructors, the majority of whom are members of the AYC. They are all classroom or practical lessons which are delivered face-to-face. This gives important advantages over online courses: individual support; access to training equipment and the development of a class identity, ethos and mutual support structure. They are also more fun!

Powerboat, Yachtmaster and Day Skipper courses will start again in October 2017. Other shore based courses will be organised in the Spring 2018 subject to demand (contact the training secretary if you are interested in any of these - VHF radio, diesel engine, first aid). We have recently received approval from the RYA to add Dinghy Sailing to our list of recognised training courses. We plan to offer courses for both adults and cadets in 2018. Click on the links above for more information.

To book a place on any course please complete an Enrol Form and send it to Sheila Crees together with a cheque for the course fee (made out to 'Axe Yacht Club'). If your query is not answered by the information on this website please contact the training team:
