Push The Boat Out at Axe Yacht Club - Saturday 14th May

Published 01:00 on 30 Apr 2016

Axe Yacht Club's Open Day is part of the national RYA 'Push the Boat Out' initiative, helping more people to get involved in watersports in their local area. Come & find out what is on offer at AYC & how to get involved in sailing & motor boating.

The Club will be open from 10.30am to 4pm on Saturday 14th May. Take a tour around the boatyard and clubhouse, talk to members about their dinghies, sailing cruisers & motor boats, and find out about the water based activities on offer at the Club. As well as seeing the range of sailing cruisers and motor boats that members enjoy, there will be a land based display of dinghies. This will include the training dinghies that have been purchased with a Sport England grant, awarded recently to support the development of cadet and family sailing at AYC. Weather permitting, you will be able to try a FREE taster sail in a dinghy or onboard a sailing cruiser. There will also be information about motor boating and sea fishing from AYC, as well as details of the RYA courses offered at the Club.

No need to book if you just want to have a look around but if you would like a taster sail (either dinghy or cruiser) pre-booking is essential.

To book email the Event Organiser ayc-ptbo@rdsailing.org.uk and we will advise you on what you will need to bring/wear.

Whether your interest is sailing a dinghy, a day boat or a cruiser, racing or just pottering, angling, power-boating, scuba diving or water ski-ing, AYC's objective is to promote and facilitate a range of water sports, whilst enjoying and preserving Axmouth Harbour. The activities on the water are supported by a programme of social events. The Club has a thriving cadet section and there are a number of dinghies for use by cadets during organised sessions. The Sport England grant, awarded in March 2016, will now allow the Club to develop a programme of dinghy sailing taster sessions & basic training for adults and older teenagers.

New membership applications are welcome all year round. Student membership is available for those aged 18 to 25 years who are in full time education or on an apprenticeship. Cadet membership is available for those aged 7 to 17years (an adult member of your family must be a member too).
