Race Training for Axe Yacht Club Cadets

Published 01:00 on 31 Jul 2015

On Saturday 11th July four cadets from Axe Yacht Club travelled to Sidmouth Sailing Club for race training from a UK RS Feva Association coach. Charlie Kendall (15), Harriet Parker (17), Anna Parker (15) and Holly Thompson (12) received instruction on how to rig the AYC Feva dinghies for optimum performance. They then took part in an on the water training session with other youth crews from Bristol and Sidmouth.

The newly fitted purple and black gennakers were hoisted for some exciting sailing. They then joined the Sidmouth SC fleet of Scorpion and Laser dinghies for their Saturday afternoon races. With gusty south-westerly winds, there was plenty of capsizing! But it was fantastic experience for the four AYC cadets and plenty of new skills were learned.
