Call for Nominations for Executive Committee 2021/22
Would you like to be more involved in how your Club is run?
Would you be prepared to be nominated for a position on the Executive Committee?
Do you know of a fellow member who would be willing to be nominated for a position?
The Club benefits enormously from the expertise of many members and cannot function without the support of the volunteers who form our Executive Committee. This is an opportunity for ALL members (lead or joint) to consider the opportunity of joining the Executive Committee and contributing to the future direction and success of the Club. As it's possible that both parties to joint memberships will not receive this message, please ensure that your joint member also has the chance to read it and participate.
A full Executive Committee ensures the best possible position from which to deliver a healthy and happy club. This can only be achieved if members put themselves forward.
Taking on a role does not mean you have to do all the work yourself! The majority of roles are supported by a sub-committee (eg Activities Afloat, Harbour Services, Social, Training) See the Executive Committee page of the website (under 'The Club') for more details.
From the attached notice, you will see that the vacant positions are: Vice-Commodore, Rear Commodore Social and Member
Vice-Commodore
The Vice-Commodore stands in for the Commodore when he/she is unavailable.
RC Social
RC Social is supported by a very active Social team who help with catering, advise on entertainment for specific events, or just help with the organisation of events (laying tables, decorating the clubhouse etc). RC Social represents this team on the EC and co-ordinates the social side of the club. RC Social is also a member of the Bar sub-committee.
Member
This is a position without a specific role. The EC has between 4 and 8 positions for members to attend meetings and contribute to the running of the Club, of which 2 are vacant.
The Officers & Members
Although some existing Officers and Members are willing to re-stand, these positions are also open to nomination at this time and you may also wish to stand for these or nominate a fellow member. In particular, the Membership Secretary has indicated that he is only willing to stand for one further year and, as there needs to be a full year's handover, volunteers to take over in 2022/23 should contact him to get further details of the duties etc.
The Executive Committee generally meets six times a year and is responsible for:
- managing the affairs of the Club according to the Rules.
- ensuring that the funds of the Club are used to promote & facilitate watersports, to encourage the enjoyment & preservation of Axmouth Harbour, and to provide social & other facilities for members.
- ensuring that all surplus income and profits are reinvested in the Club.
Sub-committees meet as and when necessary. Each area has a budget, which is agreed by the Executive Committee at the beginning of the financial year (1stOctober). Decisions made by the sub-committees are reported to the Executive Committee and requests for any additional funding are presented. This structure enables as many members as possible to be involved in the day-to-day running of the Club from the grass roots up.
